Oh, Canada.
Tom “Trilobite” Kenny is the sole standard bearer of the Maple Leaf flag in the 2003 Furnace Creek 508. The 40-year old Canadian passed the 110-mile mark as temps measured in the mid-90s. Tom had been experiencing some knee pain, but a small adjustment to his pedals alleviated the problem, and a rousing chorus of “Oh, Canada” appeared to be appreciated by the rider who himself is somewhat of a humorist. Trilobite’s pre-race advice consisted of a simple message to other riders: “Don’t pet burning dogs.”
