2001 AdventureCORPS Furnace Creek 508 Webcast

Welcome to the 2001 Furnace Creek 508 Webcast, hosted exclusively here at www.the508.com and produced by adventureCORPS. Click below for all the info about the 2001 race as it progresses. We posted updates here as often as possible, inclulding time splits through the seven race Time Stations along the route, plus finish line arrival times, images, and anecdotes. We hope this gives you a little bit of the feeling of participating in this awesome race and challenging this one-of-a-kind race course.

How This Webcast Happened
Keith Kostman, brother of the race director and Systems Administrator for Dunn School of Los Olivos, CA, ran this webcast from the start line in Valencia, featuring the 7am, 10am, and 1pm starts. Then headed home and Chris Kostman packed up the laptop and drove 250 miles to Furnace Creek. There, Chris uploaded a few slideshows of the 1pm start and the action between Valencia and Furnace Creek. A few hours later, Chris packed it up again and drove 250 miles to the finish line in Twenty Nine Palms. There, he uploaded a few shows of the action between Furnace Creek and the finish line. Following that, as racers streamed across the finish line, he uploaded finisher images and finishing times until Monday morning when the course closed. Also, the timesplits page was uploaded quite frequently by 508 and RAAM veteran Nick Gerlich of www.webframers.com in Texas. All the time station volunteers phoned him with time splits throughout the race and he graciously posted them to the website while we were all in transit and/or in the middle of nowhere. Thanks, Nick!
